(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Sri Lanka’s Export Development Board (EDB) says the National Export Strategy (NES), developed by private and public stakeholders through extensive consultations, will be launched on July 19. The objective of the National Export Strategy is to increase export earnings up to US$ 28 billion by 2022.

The EDB says Sri Lanka’s exports earnings last year hit an all-time high of US$ 15.2 billion. The National Export Strategy plans to increase that income to US$ 28 billion in the next five years. The National Export Strategy has been developed by about 750 private and public stakeholders through extensive consultations initiated by the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe last year. The six priority sectors identified at the consultations are ICT, Health and Wellness Tourism, Spice Concentrates, Boat Building, Processed Food & Beverages, and Electronic, Electrical and Machinery.

Additional Director General of the Export Development Board, Dhammika Jayawardena says that attention will also be focused on exports of other sectors.
