Indian couple nabbed with Rs. 24.5 million worth heroin at Sri Lanka airport

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Sri Lanka Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) unit at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) Monday morning arrested an Indian couple attempting to smuggle in over 2 kilograms of heroin.

Police Narcotic Bureau officers at the BIA on suspicion detained the Indian passenger and his wife who had arrived on a flight from Chennai around 2.40 am today.

Upon inspection of his luggage, the police had found 2 kilograms and 40 grams of heroin meticulously concealed in a false bottom of his luggage. The stock of heroin is estimated to worth Rs. 24.5 million.

The suspect’s wife was also arrested for aiding him to smuggle drugs. The suspects are to be produced before the Negombo Magistrate Court today.

Police Narcotic Bureau is conducting further investigations.
