(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Ambassador Alaina Teplitz was sworn in as the next U.S. Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Sri Lanka and to the Republic of Maldives.
She took oath of office administered by Under Secretary David Hale, the State Department said in a Twitter post.
Teplitz, a member of the Senior Foreign Service, Class of Minister-Counselor, was confirmed by the U.S. Senate last month to be Ambassador to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, and to serve concurrently as Ambassador to the Republic of Maldives.
Prior to her appointment to Sri Lanka Teplitz served as the Ambassador to Nepal. She has been posted to Bangladesh and Afghanistan previously and also to the South and Central Asia Bureau.
Teplitz will take over the post left vacant by Ambassador Atul Keshap, who left Sri Lanka in August after three years of service.
