Sri Lanka Army advises public not to be alarmed over false news published in media

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Sri Lanka Army today advised the general public not to be alarmed over false news of an attack similar to the Easter Sunday attack.

Issuing a statement, Sri Lanka Army Headquarters said the false news of an attack to be launched with the assistance of some Army personnel is now circulating in the internet, print and electronic media.

“It is firmly stated that this news is totally fabricated and published with malice to tarnish the image of the Sri Lanka Army. Further, it could create an unnecessary fear among the pubic disturbing their daily routine,” the statement said.

It said the investigations to identify the persons connected to this incident are now being conducted by the Sri Lanka Army and the Criminal Investigation Department.

Hence, public is requested not to be alarmed over baseless news published by various groups with different interests.
