President’s Office rejects JVP MP’s allegation that Rs. 8 bn allocated for President’s expenses

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – The Presidential Secretariat today rejected the allegations made by JVP Parliamentarian Vijitha Herath that Rs. 8 billion has been allocated for the President’s future personal activities.

Issuing a media statement Presidential Secretariat said the allegations made by the JVP parliamentarian are totally false and baseless.

Media reports, quoting MP Herath as saying at a media briefing on the 25th, said that another Rs. 2 billion has been allocated for the President through an interim account approved in parliament.

The Presidential Secretariat emphasized that allocations will not be made to any President who currently holds office or held office in the past for personal use and the money is allocated to the Presidential Secretariat.

A large sum of money from the current President’s Expenditure Head has been allocated to the currently operational Presidential Task Forces and other development programs currently underway.

The Presidential Secretariat said accordingly, no money has been allocated for the personal use of the President and strongly rejected such malicious accusations.
