President says State Ministers must not just sign documents

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –President Gotabaya Rajapaksa says State Ministers must not just sign documents.

He said that during the former regime it was found that State Ministers were not given enough authority.

The President urged the newly appointed cabinet Ministers to give more responsibilities to the State Ministers to be appointed next week.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa appointed an interim cabinet today consisting of 16 Ministers including the Prime Minister.

Rajapaksa said the interim cabinet will be in place till the next Parliamentary election.

The President said that heads of Government institutions will be appointed after being evaluated by a selection committee.

He urged the Ministers to appoint officials based on their capabilities and suitability to the respective posts.
