SLAF aircraft crashes in Haputale killing four including pilot

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – A Sri Lanka Air Force aircraft has crashed in the Thambapillai area near the Haputale town this morning killing four people including the pilot, the police said.

Sri Lanka Air Force Spokesperson Group Captain Gihan Seneviratne has confirmed that the aircraft that crashed in Haputale was one of its fixed-wing Y-12 aircraft with 4 persons on board.

He added that the aircraft had crashed while flying from Weerawila Air Force base on a reconnaissance mission.

Meanwhile, a woman from a nearby house who was injured in the plane crash has been admitted to the Haputale Hospital for treatment.

The Haputale Police are conducting further investigations.

Earlier reports said the crashed aircraft was a helicopter belonged to a private company.
