Court issues notice to MP Rajitha Senaratne on Attorney General’s petition against granting bail

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Colombo High Court Judge Manjula Tillekeratne today issued notice on the revision petition filed by the Attorney General against granting bail to former minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne.

Accordingly, the High Court Judge decided to issue notice on the suspect Minister Rajitha Senaratne and ordered to submit any objections to the case on the 23rd of this month.

The judge stated that the hearing of the revision petition will be taken up on March 05.

Former Minister Rajitha Senaratne, who was arrested on December 26 over the controversial white van media briefing during the last presidential election, was released on bail by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court on December 30.

The Attorney General filed the revision petition seeking a revision and annulment of the order issued by the Chief Magistrate of Colombo releasing former Minister Rajitha Senaratne on bail.

When the Attorney General’s petition was take up for hearing earlier, the President’s Counsel Anil Silva appearing on behalf of the former Minister Rajitha Senaratne raised objections to issuing notice to his client.

Rejecting the objections, High Court Judge Manjula Tillekeratne stated that there are sufficient grounds to hear the petition. Accordingly, the petition will be heard on 5th March.
