Police to deploy 9000 officers for public safety during the festive season

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Police Media Spokesman Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ajith Rohana stated that traffic duties have been increased for the safety of all during the festive season.

The operation commenced yesterday and will be continuing islandwide until January 05 next year.

Accordingly, about 9000 police officers have been deployed for the traffic operations, the police spokesman said.

“Our objective is not to fine or arrest the public. It is being done to ensure the road safety for the people,” the Spokesman said.

These operations are aimed at reducing fatal accidents, arresting drunk drivers, ensuring road safety and arresting speeding drivers, DIG Rohana said.

Therefore, steps will be taken to suspend or revoke the driving licenses of drunk drivers and requested the public to refrain from reckless driving.
