Coronavirus update: 770 new COVID-19 cases identified Wednesday, total rises to 55,189

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – According to Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry, 770 new COVID-19 cases were reported so far on Wednesday.

Among the positive cases identified Wednesday, 768 are associates of the Peliyagoda COVID-19 cluster and two arrivals from overseas including one from the United Arab Emirates and one from Kuwait.

According to the Epidemiology Unit report at 9 pm Wednesday, a total of 55,189 COVID-19 cases have been reported and 7,700 infected patients are being treated at hospitals. Another 688 individuals are currently under investigations in hospitals.

Sri Lanka reported one more death raising the total to 274 and 47,215 patients have fully recovered and been discharged from hospitals.

A total of 1,522,237 PCR tests have been conducted to detect COVID-19 infected persons from February 18 to January 19 according to the Health Promotion Bureau.
