Coronavirus update: 887 new COVID-19 cases identified Thursday, total rises to 56,076

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – According to Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry, 887 new COVID-19 cases were reported so far on Thursday.

Among the positive cases identified Thursday, 768 are associates of the Peliyagoda COVID-19 cluster and two arrivals from overseas including one from the United Arab Emirates and one from Kuwait.

According to the Epidemiology Unit report at 10 pm Thursday, a total of 56,076 COVID-19 cases have been reported and 7,816 infected patients are being treated at hospitals. Another 792 individuals are currently under investigations in hospitals.

Sri Lanka reported two more deaths raising the total to 276 and 47,984 patients have fully recovered and been discharged from hospitals.

A total of 1,538,345 PCR tests have been conducted to detect COVID-19 infected persons from February 18 to January 20 according to the Health Promotion Bureau.
