Solemn 73rd Independence Day celebrations planned tomorrow

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –State Minister of Defense, Home Affairs and Disaster Management Chamal Rajapaksa said all arrangements have been made to hold a solemn and modest Independence Day celebration this year.

Addressing a special media briefing at the Government Information Department to explain the 73rd Independence Day celebrations, Minister Chamal Rajapaksa requested all government and private institutions to hoist the National Flag from today to the seventh to mark the 73rd Independence Day which falls on Thursday, February 4.

Arrangements have been made to hold Hindu, Muslim, Catholic and Christian religious ceremonies, including an all-night Pirith Chanting to coincide with the Independence Day.

This year’s Independence Day celebrations will be held under the theme ‘Prosperous Tomorrow – Prosperous Motherland’.

Arrangements have been made to implement a special tree planting program in each village to coincide with the 73rd Independence Day celebrations. Tree planting programs will be implemented island wide by all the District Secretaries and Divisional Secretaries covering the Grama Niladhari Divisions.
