DNA test report on decapitated body found on Dam Street confirms victim’s identity

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –The DNA test report of the headless body of a woman found on Dam Street in Colombo on March 01 has been released, said Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana.

According to the report issued by Additional Government Analyst DHLW Jayamanne, the DNA of the murdered girl from Theppalanawa, Kuruwita matches the DNA of the mother and brother of the person concerned.

Accordingly, with the identification of the biological mother and biological brother of the person concerned, it has been biologically confirmed that the body belongs to the 30 year old DIlini Yashoda Jayasuriya resided in Theppanawa, Kuruwita.

Accordingly, the magistrate’s inquest into the death and a post-mortem examination are scheduled to be held today (09) or tomorrow (10), police spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.

The head of the victim has not yet been found and the person suspected of the murder, a 52-year-old sub-inspector of Buttala Police has committed suicide. Dam Street Police are conducting further investigations.
