Central Bank Governor to step down next week

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –The Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Professor W. D. Lakshman announced that he has decided to resign from the post on September 14.

He made the announcement at a press conference held on Friday at the Bank.

“I am retiring from the post on September 14.” he said.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa appointed former Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo, retired Economics Professor W.D. Lakshman as the15th Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka on 24 December 2019./p>

Former Central Bank Governor and current State Minister of Capital Markets Ajith Nivard Cabraal is widely expected to replace Prof. Lakshman, Daily Mirror reported.
