Sri Lankan, Maldivian leaders reaffirm commitment to strengthen Maldives-Sri Lanka cooperation

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – The President of Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, during his two-day official visit to Sri Lanka, met with Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday morning (09), the President’s Media Division said.

President Solih and President Rajapaksa held an extensive discussion on a wide array of subjects of mutual interest and reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthen Maldives-Sri Lanka cooperation in the coming years.

Ahmed Khalil, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, Ibrahim Hood, Secretary of State for Foreign Relations at the President’s Office in Maldives and Omar Abdul Razak, High Commissioner of the Maldives to Sri Lanka were also present at the meeting.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa hosted an official luncheon in honor of the visiting President of Maldives today. Prior to the luncheon, President Solih took time to converse with the Prime Minister on topics of mutual interest.

The Maldivian President and First Lady’s visit to Sri Lanka is to officiate the opening ceremony of the “Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa Trophy 2021” football tournament. The Maldives and Sri Lanka will play against each other at the opening match of the tournament, participated by national football teams from the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Seychelles.
