Institutional and legal framework of 10 ministries revised

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) –  President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has issued an Extraordinary Gazette notification revising the institutional and legal framework of 10 ministries.

According to the Extraordinary Gazette Notification No. 2187/27 dated January 10, 2022, the institutional and legal framework and special priorities of the following ministries and state ministries have been amended:

 Ministry of Justice
 Ministry of Education
 Ministry of Industries
 Ministry of Economic Policies & Plan Implementation,
 Ministry of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs
 Ministry of Public Services, Provincial Councils and Local Government
 State Ministry of Prison Management and Prisoners’ Rehabilitation
 State Ministry of Aviation and Export Zones Development
 State Ministry of Education Reforms, Open Universities and Distance Learning Promotion
 State Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local Government

Among the revisions made by the Extraordinary Gazette Notification, the Central Cultural Fund, the Buddhasasana Fund and the Central Cultural Fund Act, which were under the Ministry of Economic Policy and Plan Implementation, have been placed under the Ministry of Buddha Sasana Religious and Cultural Affairs.

The State Ministry of Prison Management and Prison Rehabilitation has been removed and all institutions and special functions under it have been transferred to the Ministry of Justice.

The National Education Commission and the National Education Commission Act (No. 19 of 1991) which were under the State Ministry of Education Reforms Open Universities and Distance Education Promotion have been brought under the Ministry of Education.

The Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (Incorporation) Act No. 41 of 1980 has been incorporated under the Corporate and Legal Framework of the Ministry of Industry.
