Norochcholai generator restored, adds 100 MW to national grid

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – The electricity regulator, the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) says that the faulty generator at the Norochcholai Lakvijaya Coal Power Plant has been repaired and reconnected to the National Power Grid.

The Public Utilities Commission further stated that 100 megawatts of electricity was added to the national grid with this connection.

The third generator of the Lakvijaya Power Plant which was restored and generated power Monday malfunctioned again yesterday due to a technical issue.

Minister of Power Gamini Lokuge said the engineers have pointed out a mechanical issue which led to temporary stoppage of the generator. He added that according to the engineers the issue can be rectified by the evening and the generator could be connected to national grid by midnight yesterday.
