Decision to extend school hours suspended

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Sri Lankan authorities have decided to temporarily suspend the decision to extend the hours of government schools by one hour from the new term.

Earlier the Ministry of Education decided to implement the program to extend school hours by one hour from April 18, when the new term starts after the New Year holidays.

The measure was considered since there is a limited period of 139 days to cover the missed lessons of the relevant syllabi for this year (2022) and the extension of the time by one hour was expected to enable an additional teaching period of about 20 days.

The first term of this year (2022) in all Government and Government approved private schools will begin tomorrow (18) and Schools are open from 7.30 am to 1.30 pm as usual, a senior official of the Education Ministry said.
