President requests striking railway workers to return to work

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – President Maithripala Sirisena has requested all workers engaging in the railway strike action to report for work, taking into consideration the inconvenience caused to students who are to sit for the G.C.E. Ordinary Level examinations, as well as the inconvenience experienced by the general commuters.

Recorded USD 12.5 Bn export earnings in first eight months

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –According to the latest data released by the Export Development Board (EDB), Merchandise export earnings recorded USD 9.5 billion for the eight months to October this year, showing substantial increases compared to USD 8.6 billion last year. Estimates in the services exports sector suggest an overall growth of 5.9% during the first eight months of the year, bringing total exports to USD 12.5 billion.
