16 million USD worth of assistance from people of India to start arriving

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – A large humanitarian grant assistance consignment worth more than SLR 2 billion from the people of India is scheduled to reach Colombo on 22 May 2022. The consignment, which consists of 9,000 MT of rice, 50 MT of milk powder and more than 25 MT of drugs and other medical supplies, will be handed over by High Commissioner Gopal Baglay to the senior leadership of Government of Sri Lanka.

PM says defeat of the Opposition’s motion to suspend Standing Orders to debate Displeasure against the President due to poor strategy

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said he advised against moving the motion to suspend Standing Orders to debate the Motion of Displeasure against the President today as it was not the best strategy at this time.

The motion to suspend the Standing Orders to debate the motion expressing displeasure over the President was rejected by a majority of 51 votes

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – The motion moved by Member of Parliament Hon. M.A Sumanthiran to suspend the Standing Orders to debate today on the Opposition’s motion expressing displeasure of Parliament for not having properly exercised, performed and discharged the powers of president under the constitution was rejected by a majority of 51 votes. 68 votes were cast in favor of the motion while 119 votes were cast against it.
