Don’t be misled by false information, President tells Sri Lankan expatriates

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – President Maithripala Sirisena says the government has gained fruitful results for its commitment in the last two and a half years to achieve prosperity and reconciliation for the motherland.
The President made these remarks during a meeting held with the Sri Lankan community living in the U.S.A, on 23rd September.

During this meeting the President said that over the past two and a half years, the government has worked with commitment to eliminate poverty from the country and face the challenges at international level regarding the alleged human rights violations during the war period, as well as to liberate the country from the huge debt burden and building of reconciliation.

The President recalled that as a result of not properly fulfilling the responsibilities of a post-conflict era by the former government, the present government has to face many difficulties, and he further said that the Government is moving forward step by step while accomplishing the expectation of the people who kept trust on him by electing him as the President of the country on January 08, 2015.

Today some social media sites are propagating false information among the expatriates Sri Lankans, the President said that adding his prime ambition is to build Sri Lanka as one of the great nations in the world.

He further said that the Government will fulfill its responsibilities to build a country where all the Sri Lankans live happily while ensuring the democracy and freedom, eliminating the mistrust among communities.

The President after visiting the Buddhist Temple in Queens joined for the meeting with the Sri Lankans living in the U.S.A. The President also presented a felicitation scroll to the Chief Incumbent of the Buddhist Temple in Queens Most Ven. Kurunegoda Piyatissa Nayaka Thero, in recognition of his social and religious services to the society.

The Maha Sangha, including the Hindu, Christian and Islamic religious leaders and the Sri Lankan community in the U.S.A participated on this occasion.
