(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says a ten year plan will be implemented to solve problems in the capital city of Colombo.
Addressing a public meeting at Wellawatte on Monday in support of the United National Party candidates, the Prime Minister said the successive governments has forgotten the Colombo city since 1994 except during the two years the United national Party was in the government.
He said that there was no plan to develop the city after the plans under the presidents J.R Jayewardene and Ranasinghe Premadasa and therefore there are many issues to be resolved now.
“Now we have a ten year plan to address these issues in Colombo. Not all of this can be done at once. We are planning to construct 50,000 flats in the next phase,” the Premier said.
He said the party plans to develop the city and resolve the housing problem. The city needs a local council that can work with the government, and therefore the UNP should take the power in the Colombo Municipal Council, he stressed.
Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake and Mayoral candidate Mrs. Rosy Senanayake also addressed the rally.
