Prices of seven essential food items reduced in view of 70th Independence Day

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – The Ministry of Industries and Economic Affairs has taken initiative to reduce the prices of seven essential food commodities in view of the 70th Independence Day, state media reported.

Accordingly a kilogram of Basmati rice will be sold at 120 rupees and a kilogram of white raw rice at 60 rupees while a kilogram of broken rice will be sold at 59 rupees.

A kilogram of dhal will cost 159 rupees, while a kilogram of green gram has been reduced to 195 rupees. The Ministry has decided to sell a kilogram of big onions at 110 rupees and a kilogram of dried chilies at 220 rupees.

Minister Rishad Bathiudeen said that these commodities can be purchased via the Sathosa outlets. These price reductions will be effective until the 07th of this month.
