In the fight against corruption, I have full faith in people – President

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –President Maithripala Sirisena says in the fight against corruption, he has complete faith in the people. He expressed fullest confidence that the people will take a right decision in the local government elections on February 10.

Addressing public meetings held in Alawwa and Galgamuwa February 7, he said it is not the characters that are essential to build the country but the clear political philosophy. He added that without a clear political philosophy or a policy, a new party created with personal agenda of protecting the thieves, will have no existence.

The former President made mistakes in his political agenda in the past too, and worked towards enhancing personal power rather than building the country and now he has come again before the people with a political agenda, the President said and called on everyone who loves the country to come together in order to defeat that movement.

President Sirisena pondered over the issues pertaining to the development of Kurunegala district and promised that steps would be taken to find solutions by holding discussions with the Ministers and Members of Parliament from that district. An immediate programme will be implemented to pay compensation to the people who have the risk in losing lands due to the construction of highways, he said.

Later, the President participated in public rallies held in Kurunegala and Galgamuwa areas and the President addressing those public rallies said that only the SLFP can give a pledge to the people to create a good governance free of fraud and corruption.

The President requested all the people to take this election as an opportunity to voice against the corruption without strengthening corrupted people and robbers.
