Steps to control escalating fish prices during festive season

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Mahinda Amaraweera has instructed the Ceylon Fisheries Corporation to take steps to control fish prices from rising during the festive season. The measure is aimed at preventing the errant traders from taking advantage of the consumers during the holidays.

It has been observed in the past New Year seasons that the prices of fish in the market have increased. Accordingly, the Ceylon Fisheries Corporation (CFC) has taken steps to reduce the prices of four types of fish during the festive season especially during the month of April.

The prices of Linna, Thalapath, Tuna and prawns have been brought down and the fish will be sold at reasonable prices at the CFC shops, Chairman of CFC Jagath Perera said. One kilogram of Linna is being sold at Rs. 250, tuna kilogram as a whole fish at Rs. 350, Tuna cut pieces kilogram at Rs. 550, Thalapath kilogram at Rs. 720 and Prawns one kilogram at Rs. 890 at the CFC stalls.
