Two Australians killed, two others injured at Southern Expressway

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Two foreigners were killed in a road accident on the Southern Expressway early Wednesday morning when their vehicle collided with a container truck, the police said.

An Australian woman and a four-year-old girl were killed in the fatal accident that occurred around 5 am today (20) near the 65th Km post in Kurundugahahetekma area on the Southern Expressway.

Their van traveling from Kottawa to Galle, has collided with the rear side of a container truck that was stopped on the side of the Expressway due to a mechanical fault and toppled over.

Four Australians who were travelling in the van and the driver of the container truck were injured and admitted to the Kalutara Nagoda Hospital.

The Australian nationals died in the accident have been identified as 37-year old Colin Lewis Monica, and her 4-year-old daughter Colin Poppy Gabriel.

Their bodies have been placed at Elpitiya and Nagoda hospitals.

Elpitiya Police are conducting further investigations.
