(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Minister of Law and Order Ranjith Madduma Bandara says that an independent committee has been appointed to probe the allegations against Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundera.
This committee consists of three senior government officials.
The Minister pointed out that there is no truth in the reports which state that the documents relevant to the allegations against the IGP are missing.
Speaking at a media conference at the Ministry yesterday, the Secretary of the Law and Order ministry said that he can with responsibility assert that none of the documents have been displaced.
The allegations against the Inspector General of Police were not recent, but an allegation made in 2009, the official noted.
Minister Ranjith Bandara and Deputy Minister Nalin Bandara said that they don’t know why the allegation wasn’t probed then but this government has no reason to hide the allegations against the IGP.
They said the Investigations into the allegations against the IGP are being conducted very transparently and the Inspector General of Police has given a statement last week in that regard.
