IGP instructs to immediately limit Ranil Wickremesinghe’s security to 10 policemen

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Sri Lanka’s Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara has ordered the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) at Prime Minister’s Security Division (PMSD) Jayantha Wickramasinghe to immediately pull out the police and Special Task Force (STF) officers assigned to the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The IGP has instructed DIG Wickramasinghe to provide 10 policemen for the security detail of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The IGP’s order says that the President Maithripala Sirisena has removed Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and from his post and appointed Mahinda Rajapaksa to the post.

Hence, the IGP had ordered to remove the additional officers of the PMSD and STF deployed for the security of Ranil Wickremesinghe and assign a team of only 10 police officers for his security.

IGP Jayasundera has informed the DIG Wickramasinghe to consider this as a necessary task and immediately implement the order and inform him.
