(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –The Ceylon Workers’ Congress chairman Arumugam Thondaman says that the strike action launched by plantation workers for the past eight days will end this morning.
The decision to end the strike launched by the estate workers on demanding the plantation companies to increase their basic daily wage up to Rs. 1000, has been taken after discussions with the President yesterday.
The President has promised that workers will be given a reasonable salary after discussing the issue with the Estate Employers Union on the 19th.
The President has requested the estate workers’ unions to end the strike considering the losses to the tea industry as well as to the country’s economy as a result of the work stoppage.
Therefore, the trade union action will be stopped, the CWC Chairman Thondaman said.
Several senior leaders of the Ceylon Workers’ Congress were also present at the discussion with the President.
