(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Sri Lanka’s Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Dr. Rajitha Senaratne says that the issuing of the e-Health card for all citizens in the country will commence in February.
In the first stage, it is planned to issue e-Health cards centering Kalutara General Hospital and Bandaragama Regional Hospital. The e-Health card is to be given to the public within a period of six months.
The e-health card program in Sri Lanka will be run by the same company which provided the e-Health cards to the people in Andhra Pradesh of India.
The Health Minister emphasized that since the patient’s complete medical reports are stored on the e-Health card, any doctor anywhere in the country can immediately provide treatment to a patient. The Minister further stated with the introduction of new technology, the people will be provided with services promptly.
The e-Health card was formally introduced at the World Health Day Celebration held on April 07, 2018 at the Nelum Pokuna Theater in Colombo. President Maithripala Sirisena and the Health Minister Dr. Senaratne received their e-Health cards at the occasion.
Meanwhile, the project to computerize the island’s hospitals is being implemented successfully. The program started in 2015 from the Horana Base Hospital has been implemented in nearly 500 hospitals by now.
Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne emphasized that the projects will benefit the patients as well as the health workers.
