Four killed, 19 injured in passenger bus collision with a transformer

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Four persons were killed and 19 others were injured when a private bus plying form Vavuniya to Colombo veered off the road and crashed into a transformer at Mahawewa junction in Marawila around 4:30 am Monday (18), Marawila Police said.

According to the hospital sources, three army soldiers, who were heading home on vacation from Puttalam army camp, one navy personnel, and four women were among the injured.

The injured had been admitted to the Marawila hospital and one of the injured has been admitted to the Chilaw hospital.

According to the police, the driver of the bus was unable to control the speed and the bus went off the road and hit a nearby transformer.

According to the police, the deceased were all men and they have not been identified yet.

The police said the death toll could be higher as some of the victims were still trapped in the bus.

Marawila Police are conducting further investigations.
