(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – The Minister of Highways & Road Development and Petroleum Resources Development Kabir Hashim says the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) will be provided with subsidized fuel for thermal power generation.
Minister Hashim said the decision has been reached following a request made by the special committee appointed by the President Maithripala Sirisena to look into the current power crisis.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Power and Energy Spokesman Sulakshana Jayawardena says that, plans are afoot to purchase 100 Megawatts of electricity from three private companies.
The Public Utilities Committee of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) meanwhile has granted permission to the Ceylon Electricity Board for an urgent purchase of 100MW from the private sector.
Jayawardena said that with the new supplies, there will be speedy solutions for the power cuts.
