Second term for the primary section of state schools begins today

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Primary section of island wide state schools from Grades 1 to 5 started for the second term today (13).

The second term for grades 6 to 13 started on the 6th of this month. The Ministry of Education has decided to open the schools from 1st to 5th grade from today as a security precaution.

The second term for schools were scheduled to start on April 22 but the government decided to close the schools until the security has been established following the Easter Sunday bomb attacks on April 21.

Additional Secretary to the Ministry R.M.M. Rathnayake said that security in all schools has been beefed up and a proper program for the protection of all schools has been implemented now.

Defense Secretary retired General Shantha Kottegoda said that special arrangements have been made for the safety of school children. Therefore parents should not have fear or any hesitation to send their children to schools, he said.

Meanwhile, the Transport operations Superintendent of the Sri Lanka Transport Board, Nihal Hidellarachchi stated that with the commencement of all schools, all 750 Sisu Seriya school buses are ready to operate from today.

After the Easter Sunday attack, all Dhamma schools also were reopened Sunday (12). Samastha Lanka Shasanarakshaka Balamandalaya and the Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs have informed all temples to take necessary steps to protect the temples.
