(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – The President Maithripala Sirisena has stated that there is no threat of a terror attack, but only a few opportunists trying to satisfy their petty agendas.
During a meeting with Kalutara District politicians, State Officers and Security Service Chiefs, organized at the District Secretariat Kalutara recently, the President claimed that certain people are misusing the independence that has been established in the country by spreading incorrect information without knowing the facts.
The politicians, irrespective of their party differences, together with State Officers and Security Service Chiefs participated in this meeting. The importance of the role needs to be played by the regional political leaders and state officers in order to safeguard the national security, was discussed during the meeting. Further, the steps that could be followed to establish a peaceful environment within all the ethnic groups, was also addressed during the meeting.
A series of discussion of this nature was conducted during the last few days at provincial and district level under the leadership of the President and the Kalutara meeting was the 12th district program in the series.
Covering the other districts, this discussion series is to be continued under the patronage of the President.
The President stated that measures have been taken to ensure the national security of the country while fully trusting the security forces and if the country comes under any potential threats that will never be hidden from the public.
He added that the students were informed to attend schools after receiving a report from the security forces, and he further said that disastrous efforts are taken place to shatter the education of children, day to day lives and the national reconciliation of the country.
However, in order to make a better future for children themselves, everyone needs to be responsible and strive to overcome this terrorism that causes economic and social barriers.
