(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said the Poson celebrations will be held on a grand scale with state patronage giving priority to religious rituals.
Addressing a media briefing at Temple Trees yesterday, the Prime Minister said that all arrangements have been made to have the Poson celebrations in all provinces.
A special discussion regarding the Poson festival in all parts of the country, including Anuradhapura, was held yesterday at Temple Trees under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
It was stated that more than a million people are expected in Anuradhapura where the main Poson celebration will be held. The Premier said all the necessary facilities have been provided for the convenience of the devotees.
Prime Minister Wickremesinghe further said while many pandals and decorations planned to be constructed for Vesak were not displayed due to the situation in the country at the time, arrangements have been made to display all these pandals and decorations during the Poson festival.
The Prime Minister emphasized that special security arrangements have been put in place to ensure the safety of the devotees during the Poson season.
Internal and Home Affairs and Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister Vajira Abeywardena said that all Divisional Secretaries have been instructed to organize All Night Pirith on June 13 followed by alms for the Maha Sangha. He also said that all government buildings would be illuminated and decorated in view of the Poson Week from June 10 to the 16.
