Three electrocuted by illegal electric cable

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Three persons were killed after being electrocuted by an unauthorized electric cable around 7.30 this morning at Gonakamulla, Thalahagama, in Akuressa, the police said.

The deceased were identified as 45-year old Gamage Amara, 56-year-old Wickramage Chandradasa and 76-year-old Madarasinghege David residents of Thalahagama.

Further investigations are being carried out by the Akuressa Police.

The electrocutions are reported a day after the electricity regulator Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) in a report said Sri Lanka has reduced electrocutions by 50 percent in 2018.

The PUCSL said drawing power lines illegally was the main reason for the electrocutions and Southern Province reports the highest electrocutions in 2018.
