Prime Minister assures to modernize education to win challenges in 21st century

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says education will be modernized to create a generation that can face the technology winning the challenges of the 21st century.

The Prime Minister expressed these views while participating in the national ceremony held at the Peradeniya National College of Education to open 250 school buildings island wide.

Under the ‘Nearest school is the best school’ national program initiated by the Ministry of Education, 250 school buildings were declared open throughout the island yesterday.

Under the first phase of this program, 200 new buildings at 200 schools in the country were opened simultaneously on 1st March. In the second phase, 250 school buildings built at a cost of Rs. 4.5 billion were opened island wide today.

Prime Minister Wickremesinghe unveiled the plaque of the second phase of the ”Nearest school is the best school’ today at the Peradeniya National College of Education and declared open the new auditorium, Smart classrooms and lecture halls.

The Prime Minister also participated in planting a Na tree at the National College of Education, Peradeniya and distributed laptops and printing machines to Teacher Centers.

MHA Haleem and State Minister Vijayakala Maheswaran were also present at the occasion.
