President launches ‘Polonnaruwa’ academic volume and ‘Moragahakanda Dream Reservoir’

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –The launching of the two books ‘Polonnaruwa; Narapathi Yugaye Sita Janapathi Yugaya Dakwa’ an academic research-based volume and ‘Moragahakanda Dream Reservoir, a book on the multipurpose project was held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday (31) afternoon.

These books have been compiled by President Maithripala Sirisena’s concept with the objective of strengthening the present by connecting the glory of past with the modern knowledge, to reach a great future.
Polonnaruwa occupies a unique place in the history of Sri Lanka as the second kingdom of the country. After the collapse of the historic Polonnaruwa kingdom, which lasted about 166 years, the establishment of the Minneriya peasant settlements in the recent past has resulted in large scale habitation once again in these areas. The area is also a fertile land with a rich historical value.

‘Polonnaruwa’ academic book has been compiled as a publication of the glorious history and subsequent gradual development of the area as well.

It contains a compilation of articles from the current field of area, not only limiting it to historical interpretations.
The President presented the two books to the Maha Sangha at this event. Symbolically, President presented these books to the representatives of school children, universities and scholars.

President Sirisena has also launched the e-book via kiyawamu.lk reader website of Sri Lanka Telecom.
He presented souvenirs to the Board of Authors of this academic volume.

A commemorative gift was also presented to President Sirisena by the Board of Authors.

Religious leaders including the Maha Sangha, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, Ministers, Public officials, Professionals, Artistes were also present at this event.
