(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding today on working together at the upcoming Presidential election.
The agreement was signed by the General Secretary of the SLFP Dayasiri Jayasekera and the General Secretary of the SLPP Sagara Kariyawasam at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute (SLFI).
Several members of the SLFP and the SLPP were present at the event.
However the leaders of both parties, President Maithripala Sirisena and Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa did not attend.
The agreement will see the SLFP backing SLPP Presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the Presidential election.
