President in Japan on last visit as head of state

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –President Maithripala Sirisena left for Japan today on his last visit as head of state before the Presidential election.

The President, accompanied by a 21-member delegation left from the Bandaranaike International Airport on Thai Airways flight TG 308 at 1:10 am today, official said.

The President will attend the coronation of the Emperor of Japan, Naruhito in Tokyo from October 22-23 at the invitation of Japanese Government.

Japan’s Emperor Naruhito publicly proclaims his enthronement tomorrow in a centuries-old ceremony at the Imperial Palace, in front of an audience of dignitaries from nearly 200 countries.

Among that group of world leaders will be representatives from monarchies in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, a group that represents a new generation of royals.
