Elders’ well-being will be top priority – NPP

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – The National Peoples Power (NPP) Presidential candidate Anura Dissanayake said a government under him will take full responsibility in ensuring the future well-being of the country’s children, youth and elders.

Addressing a political rally in Gampaha on Monday, Dissanayake said that ensuring the wellbeing and the safety of elders was a social responsibility which cannot be ignored as the elderly population in the country keeps rising.

Under a NPP government Dissanayake said elder care homes will be established throughout the country which will provide safety and care similar to which elders experience in their own homes. He said similarly will also take necessary measures to ensure the well-being of children and youth.

Dissanayake while noting that the two main parties which ruled the country since independence have failed to ensure the well-being of children, elders and youth said only a NPP government can successfully implement this task.

While criticising the campaigns of both the NDF and SLPP candidates, Dissanayake said mudslinging against each other on both platforms have taken precedence while policies and programmes for the progress of the country has taken a backseat.

He said ‘hooting’ to show dissent against some politicians who get on the SLPP stage has become a common occurrence and on NDF stage internal divisions within the alliance were apparent by utterances made by various speakers.

Dissanayake said the only political force which has a genuine interest in solving issues faced by people and ensuring their well-being was the NPP and as such the people should ensure its victory at the November 16 polls.
