Mahinda Rajapaksa to take oaths as Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister today

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Opposition Leader and Kurunegala district parliamentarian, Mahinda Rajapaksa will be sworn in today as the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka after Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe decided to resign from the post to allow the new President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to form his own government.

Prime Minister Wickremesinghe is due to meet President Gotabaya Rajapaksa this morning at the Presidential Secretariat to inform the President of his resignation.

The new President will appoint a care-taker government until the parliamentary elections in March 2020.

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) leader Mahinda Rajapaksa will take oaths as Prime Minister at 1.00 pm today. He is scheduled to assume duties at the Prime Minister’s Office at 3.00 pm.
