Ranil seeks protection for UNP supporters

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – United National Party leader, Ranil Wickremesignhe, has said that he had brought up the issue of violence faced by United National Party (UNP) supporters with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

The former Prime Minister, taking to Twitter, said that he had discussed the violence and harassment faced by UNP supporters and that the President had assured him that “it would be prevented”.

“I have discussed with the President the violence faced by UNP supporters, he assured me that it would be prevented. It is essential to ensure that the democratic rights of the people are protected not only during an election but after as well,” Wickremesinghe said.
