(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Two persons were killed in a fire that erupted at a shop on the Rath Aththana road at Galgoda junction in the Balangoda police division.
The police media unit said the deceased were a father and a daughter of the same family, who lived in a part of the shop.
The fire broke out between 3 am and 3:30 am today (11), the police said.
The mother and the son were saved and admitted to the Balangoda Base Hospital with serious burns. Police and residents of the area have worked together to douse the fire.
The deceased have been identified as a 50 year old father and his 19 year old daughter.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined and investigations are underway, Balangoda Police said.
