(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –A wildlife officer was fatally shot when a group of wildlife officers of Inginiyagala who were conducting a raid in Galaoya National Park in the Dambagalla Police Division came under fire from a group of hunters, the police said.
The shooting had taken place Wednesday night, Police Media Spokesperson’s Office said.
The deceased has been identified as a 25 year old officer attached to the Inginiyagala Wildlife Office.
The body of the deceased officer lays at the scene under police protection. Preliminary magisterial inquiries are due to be conducted today.
Police have arrested four suspects in connection with the shooting, along with a 12 bore firearm used in the shooting.
Dambagalla Police are conducting further investigations.
