(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –The annual remembrance ceremony for the fallen servicemen in the Armed Forces, Police and Civil Security Department will be held at the Battaramulla National War Heroes’ Monument this afternoon.

This is the 11th-anniversary celebrations of the end of the Separatist war that went on for three-decades between the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam and the Sri Lankan state.

Family members of the fallen servicemen will offer floral tributes at the ceremony which will adhere to Health Department guidelines due to the COVID 19 pandemic.

The Police have issued a warning in the Northern Province for all gatherings to follow the Health Dept. guidelines, a press statement issued yesterday said.

In the past, there have been ceremonies organized in the North where the victims of the war have been commemorated.

Today’s government ceremony remembers nearly 30,000 government armed forces personnel who died.
