(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) has ordered the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to conduct an immediate inquiry into a statement made by former LTTE leader turned Deputy Minister Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan alias Karuna Amman.
The inquiry is ordered into the statement made by the former Deputy Minister in the previous Rajapaksa government that he killed 2,000-3000 Sri Lankan army personnel in Kilinochchi during his tenure as a leader of the LTTE.
Addressing a gathering in the North, Muralitharan, the Leader of the Tamil United Freedom Front, has said that he is more dangerous than the coronavirus as he has killed 2000 to 3000 Sri Lankan soldiers in one night.
“Yes, I am more dangerous than COVID-19. Only 9 people died from COVID-19. We killed 2000 to 3000 Sri Lankan soldiers in one night at Elephant Pass when I was in the LTTE. Thousands were killed in Kilinochchi as well,” Muralitharan was quoted as saying in response to a comment made by the Chairman of the Karathivu local government body that “Karuna Amman is dangerous than the Corona Virus”.
Karuna Amman’s statement drew fire from both ruling and opposition political parties and calls on authorities to arrest and prosecute the former LTTE leader as he had admitted to killing of military personnel.
