Coronavirus update: 760 new COVID-19 cases identified Saturday, total rises to 32,135

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – According to Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry, 760 new COVID-19 cases were reported so far on Saturday.

Among the positive cases identified Saturday 674 are close contacts of the infected from Peliyagoda COVID-19 cluster and 81 are from the prison cluster while five arrivals from overseas including one three from the United Arab Emirate, and one each from India and Pakistan.

According to the Epidemiology Unit report at 10 pm Saturday, a total of 32,135 COVID-19 cases have been reported and 8,684 infected patients are being treated at hospitals. Another 485 individuals are currently under investigations in hospitals.

Sri Lanka reported 149 deaths and 23,304 patients including the Chinese tourist, who was the first COVID-19 case detected in the country in January, have fully recovered and been discharged from hospitals.

A total of 988,964 PCR tests have been conducted to detect Covid-19 infected persons from February 18 to December 11, according to the Health Promotion Bureau.
