(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle, State Minister of Primary Health Care, Epidemics and COVID Disease Control today admitted that due to the decisions taken by certain parties, problems have arisen in the method of administering the Covid vaccine.
Speaking at a media briefing in Battaramulla today State Minister alleged that some government officials change the decisions made by the technical committee in administering the vaccine.
“Some officials have set aside the decisions taken by the technical committee and changed. Even I don’t know as the Minister of Covid Management. These facts need to be rectified. The government spends a lot of money on this during the vaccination program.”
She further said the decisions taken at the Covid control task force meeting chaired by the President as well as the Covid suppression technical committee meeting at the Ministry of Health are changed.
“All of a sudden, they call at night and say to prepare for vaccination tomorrow. We cannot do that,” she said.
“Health officials should be issued a series of instructions regarding vaccination. So far no such advice has been issued. The health authorities in the area or Grama Niladhari divisions where the vaccination is being carried out should be informed and they should be prepared for it. People in those areas need to be informed to come and get the vaccine. Places need to be reserved. They also need to observe whether the people have any complications after being vaccinated,” the Minister explained.
“This is due to the actions of the top officials of the Ministry of Health who have no understanding of public health. As Minister of Covid control I do not know there is a meeting of the Covid suppression Committee. There is a certain confusion due to communication problems. This needs to be changed,” the State Minister said.
