President seeks support of health community to build a national health system that benefits all equally

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said a good national health system that will benefit people of all walks of life and all parts of the country will be built and called for new ideas to achieve this goal in the short term.

The President made this call speaking as the Chief Guest at the inaugural day of the 43rd Annual Academic Sessions of the Kandy Society of Medicine held in Kandy yesterday afternoon (07).

Ensuring a healthy nation in line with the “Vision of Prosperity” policy statement is the main objective of the government. President Rajapaksa emphasized the need for a broader health community of doctors and other healthcare professionals to work with the government to identify and address long-term problems.

The President said that during his visits to villages in 17 districts for the “Discussion with the Village” program, he was able to experience first-hand the various problems faced by the rural and estate community.

President Rajapaksa said during the visits, he was able to identify some weaknesses that needed to be overcome in the health system. He pointed out that if these shortcomings were allowed to continue, serious adverse consequences could arise.

The President said the medical community should pay immediate and careful attention to the need to overcome this situation in rural areas and to ensure good health for the entire population.

The Annual Academic Sessions of the Kandy Society of Medicine (KSM) will conclude next Friday (09). The Academic Sessions explores new discoveries and expert experience. Central Province Governor Lalith U. Gamage, State Minister Prof. Channa Jayasumana, Mayor of Kandy Kesara Senanayake, President of the Kandy Chamber of Commerce President of KSM Dr. Dushantha Madegedara and members of the Association were also present.
